Australopithecus afarensis is one of the best-known early human species. Found between 3.9 and 2.9 million years ago in Eastern Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania). The most famous fossil is the partial skeleton named Lucy, discovered in Hadar, in the Afar region of Ethiopia. Their adaptations for living both in the trees and on the ground helped them survive for almost a million years as climate and environments changed.
